Holiday Party Empties? Book an Event Bottle Pickup in Edmonton
October 9, 2026 · 3 min read
Party season in Edmonton starts with Thanksgiving dinner and doesn't really slow down until New Year's Day. In between there are Halloween parties, staff Christmas parties, holiday open houses, family gatherings and team socials. Every one of them ends the same way: a counter covered in empty cans and bottles, and a recycling bin that filled up hours ago.
Those empties are worth money, and you don't have to haul them anywhere. Here's how to use our event bottle pickup to make the cleanup easy this season.
Which holiday events are a good fit?
If a gathering is big enough that the empties won't fit in your regular recycling, it's worth booking a pickup. That includes:
- Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with extended family
- Halloween parties at home, at the office or at a community hall
- Staff holiday parties and client appreciation events
- School winter concerts, craft fairs and holiday markets
- Hockey, ringette and basketball tournaments over the winter break
- New Year's Eve parties, big or small
Just a few extra bags after a family dinner? A regular free bottle pickup works great too. Not sure which one fits? Contact us and we'll point you in the right direction.
Plan the pickup before the party
The holiday season is busy for everyone, so booking ahead takes one more thing off your list. You can schedule the pickup before, during or after your event, whatever fits your plans. For most home parties, the day after works best. For a market or tournament that runs over a few days, a pickup partway through can keep the bins from overflowing.
Booking takes about a minute on our booking page, and you'll get an email confirmation with the option to cancel or reschedule if your plans change.
Hosting at a hall or venue?
If your party is at a community hall, a church basement or a rented venue, ask the venue ahead of time where bags can wait until pickup. When you book, tell us the address and where the bags will be. If anything is unusual, like a side entrance or a building that locks early, give us a call so the pickup goes smoothly even if you can't be there.
Set up one spot for empties
The easiest way to keep refundable containers out of the garbage is to give guests one obvious place to put them. A few simple tips:
- Put a clearly labelled bin or bag near the drinks, and another one near the door
- Keep it separate from food waste so the bags stay cleaner
- Pour leftover drinks into the sink before bagging, which keeps bags lighter and less sticky
- Leave caps on and don't crush cans or bottles, so everything is easy to count
You don't need to sort anything. Glass, cans, cartons and plastic can all go in the same bags. We sort and count everything at the depot.
Keep the bags out of the cold
Once the party is over, store the bags somewhere sheltered until pickup day, like a garage, porch or storage room. Bags left on a snowbank can freeze to the ground, split open or get buried after a storm. On pickup day, set them in a spot that's easy to reach with a clear path, so our crew can grab them quickly.
Turn party empties into a donation
Hosting a staff party or community event for a good cause? The container refunds can go straight to a charity, school or team instead of back to you. Just let us know when you book. It's a simple way to make a holiday event do a little extra good.
Enjoy the party and skip the depot run
You already paid a deposit on every drink you served. With event pickup from Triple H Southside Bottle Depot, you get that money back without loading sticky bags into your car on a cold morning. Each refundable container is worth 10 or 25 cents depending on its size, and you can see the details on our return rates page.
